Dardia® - Fast and Long-lasting Hydration for All Body Areas

Mainly for the face
Dardia® Lipo Cream - dry skin

Water-in-oil (w/o) emulsion (See: What are water-in-oil emulsions?) containing 3 % glycerin and 2 % L(+)-lactic acid / lactate for use mainly on the face. The cream is rapidly absorbed on dry skin.

Mainly for large body areas - very dry skin
Dardia® Lipo Milk plus 5 % Urea

Water-in-oil (w/o) emulsion containing 3 % glycerin 5 % L(+)-lactic acid / lactate and 5 % urea for use on larger areas of the body. The milk is rapidly absorbed on dry skin.
(See: What are water-in-oil emulsions? )

For special areas - extremely dry skin
Dardia® Lipo Ointment plus 5 % urea

Water-free product for use on extremely dry skin in special areas such as the hands, feet and elbows. Additional moisturising capacity is provided by the strong occlusive effect of the water-free formulation and 5 % micronised urea. The formulation protects, softens and smoothes the skin without being sticky or leaving an oily sheen.
All three formulations are pleasant-to-use and odourless.

The formulations of Dardia® are designed to improve the condition of very dry and sensitive skin by increasing its water content. Dardia® Lipo Cream, Lipo Milk and Lipo Ointment work like an invisible moisturising barrier protecting the skin from drying out.

Dardia® contains a high concentration of selected lipids for extra effectiveness.

What are oil-in-water emulsions?

A formulation in which the oil is suspended in water is called an ‘oil-in-water emulsion’ (suspension of oil in water). Oil-in-water formulations are widely used because of their elegant sensory properties, but unfortunately they are less suitable for dry skin conditions. In order to make the product feel good on the skin, numerous ingredients are added that can increase the risk of allergy and irritation.

Oil-in-water formulations

  • are less effective on moisture- and lipid-deficient skin and
  • sometimes make dry skin conditions worse.

What are water-in-oil emulsions?

In contrast, Dardia® Lipo Milk and Lipo Cream are water-in-oil emulsions (water suspended in oil), which means that they can leave a consistent lipid film on the skin and retain the moisture that comes from within the body inside the upper layer of the skin. This is called “occlusive effect" , a principle often used in the treatment of dry skin.

Water-in-oil formulations are ideal for chronically dry skin because they resemble the natural hydro-lipid film on the skin and reduce the evaporation of the water through its outer layer.

This makes the Dardia® preparations an excellent choice for the maintenance of long-term skin hydration.

The sensory qualities of water-in-oil and oil-in-water formulations are different. An oil-in-water formulation feels light and easy to apply, whilst a water-in-oil formulation is slightly heavier as it contains more lipids. However, dry skin requires more lipids than normal or greasy skin. The special composition of Dardia® provides a good ‘skin feel’ despite its water-in-oil formulation.
(See: Excellent sensory properties)

How can you distinguish a water-in-oil from an oil-in-water emulsion?

How can you tell an oil-in-water formulation (for normal or greasy skin) from a water-in-oil formulation (for dry skin)?
